Rolling shutters can be operated using electric motors, manual gears or a pull-tape system. Roll shutters can be operated inside or outside of the building. Roll up shutters use a series of slats that roll up into a housing for storage. The slats, when rolled down, are guided by tracks on each side. Each installation must have adequate space for side tracks up to 3″ each side and room for a hood at the top, 6″ – 12″ depending on the height of the opening.

• If you are purchasing high-quality windows, the impact-approved glass can be considered in lieu of any additional storm shutter product. Keep in mind, though, the glass can break if struck by debris during a storm and is expensive to replace.
• No custom shapes such as arches or angles except in special situations.
• Requires enough room above the opening for the hood, which contains the slats when in the rolled-up position.
• Obstructions such as exterior lights should be considered when evaluating an opening for wall mount installation.
• Decorative banding around a window or door using non structural products may require special installation steps.
